Ewan McGregor's actress daughter has debuted a striking new look, weeks after landing one of the most coveted TV roles.
Fans might best recognise Ewan's 25-year-old daughter, Esther McGregor, from Prime Video's We Were Liars, and for her blonde shaggy haircut she rocks in real life. But when she arrived at the star-studded CFDA Fashion Awards on 2 November in New York, the actress debuted her an incredibly long braid in her hair.
Esther's massive, voluminous braid trailed down the length of her back with wispy strands framing her face beautifully – and her sculptural Thom Browne dress was just as jaw-dropping. The structured look featured elevated sleeves that sat off her shoulders and an exaggerated skirt that flared dramatically from the waist in an oval shape.
© WWD via Getty ImagesThe hair transformation comes just weeks after it was announced that Esther will be playing leading lady Violet Sorrengail in the highly anticipated TV series adaptation of Rebecca Yarros' bestselling Fourth Wing book series. Fans couldn't help but notice Esther's new hair was the perfect ode to her upcoming role.

Like father, like daughter
Not only has Esther followed in her famous father's footsteps, but she's even shared the screen with him.
Esther had a small cameo in the 2022 Disney+ miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi, which follows Ewan's Star Wars character a decade after the fall of the Jedi Order. Ewan later defended the decision to cast his daughter in the show, clarifying that Esther had to audition for the part.

He explained: "Deb, the brilliant director said to me 'I found this great girl but she turns out to be your daughter. Are you happy with that?' I said that would be amazing."
Esther also appeared in the 2024 film Babygirl alongside her father's Moulin Rouge co-star, Nicole Kidman.
Esther is going to star in a major TV adaptation
Prime Video officially confirmed on 21 October that Esther and German actor Emilio Sakraya will play love interests Violet and Xaden in the upcoming Fourth Wing adaptation.
