Eco-friendly fashion line proves a celeb draw for stylish Stella

Stella McCartney's mission to make the fashion industry eco-friendly was given a massive boost this week as her famous pals turned out in force to help celebrate the launch of her first ever organic clothing line. Members of the designer's hip London set - including singer Sophie Ellis Bextor and Kate Moss' close friend Davinia Taylor - donned their finest frocks for the launch dinner at Harvey Nichols.

"If clothes have an ethical or ecological edge, that's a huge bonus," says dedicated vegetarian Stella who, along with her A list guests, tucked into a four-course meal of mint and pea soup, English asparagus with sauce Hollandaise and tomato risetti. "We address these questions in every other part of our lives except fashion. Mind-sets are changing, though."

And tennis ace Maria Sharapova, who also let her hair down at the bash, certainly isn't dwelling on her disappointing performance at this year's Wimbledon. The leggy Russian, as famous for her on-court fashion choices as she is for her game, made the most of the chance to help stylish Stella celebrate her latest venture, enjoying a knickerbocker glory dessert while chatting to When A Stranger Calls beauty Camille Belle.

Stella's 20-piece organic collection, based on her autumn/winter 2009 designs, is available now at Harvey Nichols.
