Louis Vuitton salutes Paris as ready to wear shows come to an end

13 MARCH 2009
Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu both paid homage to the French capital in their collections for this autumn/winter as Paris' prÍt-a-porter season drew to a close.

At Louis Vuitton, models wearing the label's chic, quintessentially French collection took to a runway under the watchful eye of American head designer Marc Jacobs. His sexy, sassy designs included flounced mini skirts, ruched-sleeve confections and Moulin Rouge-esque corsets. Thigh-high boots and black taffeta bunny ears completed many of the outfits.

The collection was inspired by the streets of the France captial - from the red-light district of Pigalle to chic Champ Elysee avenue. "And maybe it's a little Marie Antoinette, too," admitted the 45-year-old.

Italian designer Miuccia Prada had also turned to French couture as the starting point for the Miu Miu autumn/winter collection. Softly flowing, draped silhouettes were a key theme, explored through modern, clean-cut sleeveless wool coat dresses loosely belted at the waist.

Unusual necklines and deconstructed tailoring on features such as the lapel were another constant in the 59-year-old's offering for next season.
