Bruce Oldfield has dressed the world's most stylish women, from Princess Diana to Kim Kardashian. Now, the legendary designer has spoken exclusively to HELLO! Fashion Monthly about the most memorable moments of his career – which spans over 40 years – including the unexpected alterations made to a dress worn by Kim.

"The black lace dress Kim Kardashian wore to the Golden Globes 2012 was a sample size ten," he explained. "When it came back, someone had taken in darts around the waist to make it much smaller. We sold it to a girl from Paris who rushed to London on the Eurostar."

When asked about his career highlights, the style maestro described working with Princess Diana as having "changed my life", and opened up about how "shocking" he found it when the elegant royal stopped wearing his designs.

"I'd be a fool if I didn't say Diana, particularly when she went to the Barnado's Ball in my backless silver gown in 1985," he said. "It changed my life and, yes, it was shocking when it all fell apart, but I mustn't gossip. The temptation is to gossip, but I've been told not to. I'm a bit gobby, I get in trouble when I gossip."

Nowadays, there is another royal whom Bruce has admitted he would love to work with – the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton.

"It would be lovely, we'd all be delighted," he revealed. "But I’m very happy with what I’ve got. It’s been a struggle, the business does go up and down, and then somebody will walk in and spend £70,000. So I’m happy now to have a steady income."
