Princess Charlotte may have never met her late grandmother Princess Diana, but she has inadvertently followed in her footsteps with some of her fashion choices.
Most recently, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a new photo taken by Kate to celebrate Charlotte turning nine. Leaning against a fence at the family's home in Windsor, she was framed with pink blooms known as clematis Elizabeth, which could have been a sweet nod to her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.
In another subtle family tribute, Charlotte wore a blue and white outfit much like William's late mother, whom she was named after, did in an unearthed childhood photo.
Charlotte layered a burgundy cardigan by Cyrillus over a floral pie-crust shirt and a navy knitted top, which she paired with a trendy denim skirt.
Back in 1968, then six-year-old Diana similarly posed in front of a black iron fence in Cadogan Place Gardens, sporting the same soft smile and tilted head. She wore a red dress with a white collar and a navy cardigan to keep her warm.

Princess Charlotte's historic birth
Born on 2 May 2015, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana is currently third in line to the throne. She made history when she became the first female child of a future monarch to benefit from the Perth Agreement, which means royal girls do not lose their place in the line of succession to younger brothers.

How William and Kate's daughter takes the lead
One of the most notable examples of her taking the lead was at her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral in 2022, where she reminded her older brother Prince George to bow to the coffin.

Two years later, Queen Elizabeth confirmed that her dynamic with her younger sister Margaret, who "looked after" her, was much like George and Charlotte.
