Duchess Sophie has got a new designer dress, and we think it's one of her best yet. On Monday, the mother of Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex, looked resplendent in a new addition to her wardrobe, a gorgeous design by Roland Mouret.
Known as the 'Handkerchief-Sleeve Drape-Waist Silk-Blend Midi Dress', it costs £785 and is part of the brand's current collection. Classically elegant, the statement handkerchief sleeves give it a feminine finish, and the waist-sculpting detail effortlessly cinches the silhouette.
Accessorising to perfection, Sophie added a copper-toned pair of shoes by Penelope Chilvers and carried a burgundy clutch bag.
Everything you need to know about Roland Mouret
British-based French fashion designer Roland Mouret founded his namesake brand in 2005, which was best known initially for creating the 'Galaxy' dress, which was loved by a plethora of A-listers, including Victoria Beckham.
After some financial issues due to COVID, the brand was rescued in 2021 when Roland Mouret was acquired by Self-Portrait founder Han Chong.
Royalty loves Roland Mouret
The Princess of Wales has been a long-time fan of Roland's impeccably designed pieces, and her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, has a special connection with the designer. Meghan and Roland have known each other for many years, even enjoying lunch dates together before she met Prince Harry, which she documented on her old Instagram account for her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig.
At one point, Roland was rumoured to be the one to design her wedding dress. Meghan previously spoke about her relationship with him. "This man in a bathrobe said, 'I love to dress you,'" she said. "I thought, 'Whaaat?' Then he told me who he was and we've been friends ever since," she remarked to Fashion Magazine in 2016. Equally, Roland has a lot of time for Meghan, too. He remarked to the New York Post: "Meghan knows really well what she likes, and the main thing with Meghan is to listen to her and work in collaboration with her," he revealed in 2018.
