Pop icon Madonna’s new film, Swept Away won’t hit UK screens until 2003, but these pics give fans a taste of what’s to come in the romantic comedy, which teams up the singer with her director husband Guy Ritchie.

In the film, a remake of Lina Wertmuller’s 1974 Italian-language movie, Madonna plays a socialite who falls in love with a Communist sailor after getting shipwrecked with him on a deserted island. And as these shots show, the Evita star and her on-screen lover Adriano Giannini give the Mediterranean sun a run for its money as they heat up the beach in a steamy clinch.

Madonna and Guy talk about the sexy film shoot in their first ever joint interview, published in this week’s HELLO! magazine – and Madge’s hubby shares his thoughts on having to guide his spouse through love scenes with her hunky co-star. “It is an issue,” he admitted, adding later, however: “It only appeared as though you see a lot of making out. There actually isn’t much of that. It was a bit of rolling around in the sand.”

Though the British filmmaker jokes he directed the love scene “from about three feet away, with a very sharp stick”, Madonna assures that everything went smoothly. “The whole thing was weird, because, after all, he’s my husband and he’s the only person I make love to,” she says. “But you know what? I’m a professional and I got through it.”
