Patrick Swayze: a life in pictures
As Lisa Niemi faces the future without the love of her life Patrick Swayze, she can take some comfort from the actor's own words in which he described his 57 years on earth as "an amazing ride".
In the memoir he co-wrote with his wife before his September 14 passing, the late Hollywood star reveals how any moments of despair he endured after being diagnosed with cancer were placated by his love for life and Lisa.
"I began to think to myself, I've had more lifetimes than any ten people put together," he wrote in The Time Of My Life earlier this year.
Another likely source of solace for Lisa, who wed the Dirty Dancing star in 1975, will be the Hollywood tributes that continue to pour in for Patrick.
This week at the Toronto International Film Festival, his Point Break co-star Keanu Reeves shared his recollections of working with the Ghost star describing him as "a beautiful person, and artist".
"I can say what I know – that he lived life to the fullest," he added.
Lesley Anne Down, who acted alongside Patrick in 1985 mini-series North And South, echoed those sentiments saying: "Honestly and truly, he had a fuller and more rewarding life than most people ever get to live.
"If life is about the quality, and not the quantity, then he lived a perfect life."
They join a host of famous faces who have spoken out in homage to the Houston-born actor, whose wife and brother Don were by his side when he died at his ranch on the outskirts of LA.
It has also been revealed that US TV show Dancing With The Stars will be honouring Patrick on September 23.
The trained dancer made a guest appearance in 2005 teaching his friend and actor John O'Hurley some moves in rehearsal and subsequently supported him by attending the season one finale.
"He was one of the few people to integrate dance with being an A-list actor," the show's executive producer said.
"We want to honour the great moment he's brought to film by getting our dancers to do their interpretations to some music from his films," he added.
