MGM+ has unveiled a brand new teaser for the upcoming second season of the Outlander spin-off, Blood of My Blood – and it looks unmissable!

Billed as an "epic time-travelling romantic drama," the series chronicles the romance between the parents of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe), the central characters of the original series.

Set across two timelines – the battlefields of World War I and the rugged Highlands of 18th-century Scotland – the story follows two passionate couples as they defy the forces threatening to tear them apart.

If, like me, you're a sucker for a sweeping, epic love story, then you won't want to miss this.

Ahead of the season two premiere on 19 September, find out all we know so far…

What to expect from Outlander: Blood of My Blood season two

The new teaser trailer gives fans a thrilling glimpse at the action-packed season ahead. Reprising their roles in season two are Harriet Slater (All Creatures Great and Small) and Jamie Roy (Condor's Nest, Burning Lies) as Jamie's parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser. Alongside them, Hermione Corfield (We Hunt Together) and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) return as Claire's parents, Julia and Henry.

When we last left the characters in the season one finale, Henry and Julia were finally reunited at the standing stones of Craigh na Dun, following an unexpected journey back in time which left them separated and lost in 18th-century Scotland. However, the season two sneak peek hints at heartbreak ahead, showing a distraught Julia alone with her baby.

The synopsis continues: "Separated from his love and hope, Henry must grapple with his mental health, as he fights to find his way back to her."

"Meanwhile, the forbidden relationship between Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie seemed to conquer all odds, but their romantic escape was cut short as fiery crosses were lit and the 1715 Jacobite Rising began, thrusting the clans into war.

Outlander: Blood of my Blood returns in September

"In Season One, they chose each other over their families, but now they must prioritize their clan loyalties, as Brian fulfils his obligation to fight and Ellen seeks to make things right with her family.

"As Season Two unfolds, the two young couples will be tested and separated once again by forces beyond their control, as every clan chooses a side in the rebellion."
