Miley Cyrus has revealed that the long hair she used to have were all extensions in a new interview.

The former Hannah Montana star, who shocked fans earlier this year when she had her cascading brunette mane chopped in favour of an edgy, peroxide blonde crop, said the hair was "never real".

"That's my Nashville life, my simple life," she said during an interview with Harper's Bazaar, referring to the last front cover she did for the magazine. "That's my simple life yet I have like 350 extensions in my hair."

That was not real. None of it was ever real. None of it was ever growing out of my head.

"The star, who is engaged to Hollywood actor Liam Hemsworth spoke about changing her look. "I was in Philadelphia working," she said. "I met Chris McMillian at my hotel room. I had him cut it, bleach it. And I got on the train that night and someone recognised me right away.

I was like 'what d'ya mean! I don't even look like myself to me now!' "Miley, 20, also talked about her love of fashion. "It's kind of just been like an organic thing," she explained. "As I take more control of my life people are following that. "I look online at blogs like all night, when I'm falling asleep. You know when you're falling asleep, all of it's in there [taps her head]."

She also spoke about her style icons - the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley. "I've been obsessed with the Olsen twins since I was like five," she said. "I've seen every movie - literally, you could ask me about any movie.

I've seen all of them and they actually did like a school of fashion when they were like ten.

They were wearing the most amazing clogs. "Miley's love life has been under scrutiny recently, with many claiming that her engagement to Liam Hemsworth has been called off.

But the star quashed any such rumours when she was questioned about a romance with Justin Bieber.

"I'm engaged! I'm engaged. That is impossible," she said in an interview with Washington DC radio programme The Kane Show.

Her Australian fiancé Liam also made a public move recently to show that the two are still very much a couple.

The Hunger Games actor recently joined the Twitterverse this week sending out his first two tweets – a quick hello to fans and a promotional message from 'Team Liam'.The star, 23, also began following 13 people, including Miley.
