Perhaps the Celebration Tour is taking its toll

Madonna is gearing up for The Celebration Tour, rehearsing hard to make sure her show is the best it can be, but her intense regime could be taking its toll on her joints.

The 64-year-old superstar shared snaps of her rehearsals, rocking a typically Madonna outfit of fishnet tights and an oversized shirt, paired with chunky boots. The star was also wearing something out of character – knee pads!

Known for her energetic performances, we suspect Madonna will be throwing herself onto her knees as part of her routines, hence the need for kneepads.

We're pleased to see the star is taking care of herself, because her knee and hip injuries saw her cancel 14 shows during her The Madame X Tour in 2019 and 2020.

Madonna also injured her coccyx during a performance, after a chair was pulled out from under her on stage.

"If only knees didn't twist and cartilage didn't tear and nothing hurt and tears never fell out of our eyes," she wrote on Instagram at the time.

The Material Girl singer underwent knee surgery in April 2020, using the pandemic to recover, followed by hip surgery in November 2020.

No stranger to surgery, Madonna explained that a procedure was the result of her altered appearance at the Grammys in February 2023.

After her face looked puffy at the awards ceremony, she was inundated with criticism, to which she responded in true-Madonna fashion shortly afterwards.

She shared a fresh-faced photo of herself with her jawline looking remarkably more defined than it had at the Grammy's, writing: "Look how cute I am now that swelling from surgery has gone down. Lol."
