He may have been finding the remote Fife town of St Andrews a trifle dull recently, but Prince William was in for a saucy treat this week when he attended a charity fashion show.
The Prince, who is currently enrolled on a History of Art course at St Andrews university, watched from a £200 VIP seat as a bevy of beautiful fellow students paraded past. Some modelled lacy lingerie including stocking and suspenders, while others wore flamboyant designer outfits.
He was joined at his candle-lit, front row table by seven friends.
Models at the Yves St Laurent-sponsored catwalk event, which is expected to raise £5,000 for charity, included Jenny Lederer, an 18-year-old American undergraduate who is on the same course as Wills. “A lot of girls here are like: ‘I’m here tomeet the Prince and marry the future King of England’, and that’s their main purpose for being here,” she said, adding: “I am lucky enough to share my social anthropology lessons with him.”
Fellow amateur model Victoria Datnow, who sported cowboy-style chaps on the runway, empathised with the problems Wills seems to be having in adjusting to university life. “I know he was finding it a little difficult at the beginning of this year, but I think I was too last year. It’s not easy being far from home and suddenly having to be independent. You're unsure about whether it is the right thing for you and you are thinking what are you doing here. It is all very difficult to make the transition from school to university.”
Last month it emerged that Wills had told friends he feels lonely at St Andrews and wants to transfer to Edinburgh where many of his old school chums are studying. But if the broad smile on the Prince's face at the catwalk event was anything to go by, it seems to have assuaged his disenchantment somewhat.
