King Charles celebrates following Prince Harry's return to UK

Relations are strained between father and son

Just 24 hours after Prince Harry made a surprise appearance in London to attend a court hearing, and his father King Charles has a good reason to celebrate.

On Tuesday, Buckingham Palace released a statement sharing some touching news with royal fans.

And true to form, the royal family are ignoring the furore surrounding King Charles's youngest son.

The palace confirmed that King Charles has become Colonel-in-Chief of the Corps of Royal Engineers (known as the Sappers), following in the footsteps of his late mother, the Queen.

Chief Royal Engineer Lieutenant General Sir Tyrone Urch said: “I am absolutely delighted that His Majesty The King has agreed to be our new Colonel-in-Chief.

“This is a great honour and continues a long-standing tradition started in 1904 by His Majesty King Edward VII.

“This wonderful news will inspire the entire Sapper family worldwide”.

His relations with the royal family remain incredibly strained, not least because of the explosive claims he has made about his loved ones.

As such, despite the fact that he will likely remain in London for at least four days, HELLO! understands the King has no plans for them to reunite.

It's thought that Harry was told his father was busy between now and his departure to Germany on Wednesday.

Harry appears to have travelled to London on his own with no sign of Meghan nor their children.

He has previously claimed that it is too dangerous for him and his family to return to the UK. For that reason, it's still not yet known whether the Sussexes will attend the King's coronation on 6 May.

It's believed that the Prince will stay at Frogmore Cottage during his visit this week.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Harry and Meghan have been told to evict their UK base by King Charles since they are no longer working royals and now live permanently in the US.
