Serbian royal tradition
Prince Stefan, Hereditary Prince Philip, Crown Princess Katherine, Crown Prince Alexander, Princess Marija and Princess Danica pose for a photo after the ceremonial burning of dried oak branches, the Yule log symbol for the Orthodox Christmas eve at the White Palace in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates this day before Christmas in the Julian calendar with the head of a family cutting a yule tree and bringing it into the family's home where it is placed during their dinner.
After the meal the family burns the tree. The traditional custom combines both, elements of Christianity and old Serbian pagan faith.
