Each year, Prince William attends upwards of 130 engagements, often jam-packed with back-to-back itineraries across the UK and overseas.
Some may be surprised to learn that the Prince of Wales employs one non-negotiable rule during his engagements, and it's one that was likely inspired by his father, King Charles.
Many of the events attended by royals involve some refreshment, be it a tipple of champagne, a slice of cake or any other snack that may be geared towards the theme of the engagement.
But it turns out that the heir to the throne follows a strict rule not to eat at engagements, an insider told HELLO!. Now and then, he will enjoy a bit of a sweet treat or local delicacy, but William will never be seen stacking his plate high, reserving his main meals for off-camera enjoyments.

It's not clear exactly why William upholds the rule, but it may have something to do with his father, who famously does not eat lunch. Clarence House revealed the unusual habit in a list of 70 facts about the King for his 70th birthday in 2018.
It read: "The (then) Prince does not eat lunch". It's unclear exactly why Charles skips the midday meal, but it likely has something to do with his busy schedule. Discussing the monarch's eating habits, Julian Payne told The Mirror: "The King doesn't eat lunch; so, an early lesson I learned when out on the road with him was to have a big breakfast or bring a few snack bars with you to keep you going."
"The working day is pretty relentless. Beginning with the radio news headlines and a breakfast of seasonal fruit salad and seeds with tea."

What does Prince William eat?
Though the Prince and Princess of Wales are fairly secretive about their meals, one visit to Birmingham in 2023 offered a clue as to when they find the chance to eat lunch.
A clip from the day revealed the couple at the railway station heading home. Kate was seen carrying a tote bag that appeared to contain two brown paper bags and a water bottle, which could have been purchased at a deli or supermarket.

He also admitted he enjoys a full English fry-up. The Prince previously revealed other components of his diet during a press event four days ago, admitting that he often relies on others to buy his food, which is often a sandwich washed down with a glass of water.
