Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden was a vision in pink on Thursday, when she stepped out for a very special reason.
The Swedish royal, 49, has been the official protector of the Breast Cancer Foundation's Pink Bandet campaign for 18 years. The annual campaign runs in October and saw the Princess donning its latest design.
Wearing a beautiful pink suit, Victoria donned the latest design of the classic pink ribbon designed by the foundation, which this year is adorned with the famous pink elephant from the Swedish children's illustration, Five Ants Are More Than Four Elephants.
The ribbon was designed by the creator of the cartoon, Ove Gustafsson; the elephant being a symbol of wisdom and strength in supporting each other and walking together in the fight against cancer
"I just want to say that Crown Princess is amazing and does a great job," one royal fan penned. A second added: "Thank you so much, this means so much to me and my family." Meanwhile, a third penned: "So beautiful, our Princess Victoria."
Victoria's pink ensemble was complete with a beautiful pussybow blouse in a soft rose hue, matching Victoria's subtle gold hoop earrings that featured a pink detail.
What inspired Princess Victoria to raise awareness for breast cancer?
Victoria's aunt, Princess Christina, - the sister of King Carl XVI Gustaf - was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, which was when Victoria became a high-profile advocate for cancer research and early detection.
Princess Christina underwent three surgeries alongside chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Her medical team declared her cancer-free following successful treatment.
After beating breast cancer, Princess Christina was later diagnosed with chronic leukaemia in 2016. She received a stem cell transplant in 2017 and subsequently stepped back from full-time official royal duties to focus on her health.
The impact of Victoria launching the national campaign every autumn earns the charity tens of millions of kronor annually for cancer research, diagnostic equipment and patient support.
Ulrika Årehed Kågström, Secretary General of the Swedish Cancer Society, said, "We are incredibly proud of HRH Crown Princess Victoria's long-term commitment to the Pink Ribbon campaign.
"When cancer strikes, we need research that saves lives, but also people who dare to talk about the difficult things and are there for each other. This year’s campaign highlights the importance of precisely this, and we are pleased that the Crown Princess is supporting the Pink Ribbon for the eighteenth year in a row."
