Prince Harry will step in for the Queen and his father Prince Charles to attend the 2015 Royal Variety Performance in London. Each year senior members of the royal family take turns in attending the show, and Harry has been given a golden ticket this year.

One Direction, Kylie Minogue and Sir Elton John will headline the star-studded evening, which celebrates the best UK and international musical performers, magnificent theatre, and knee-slapping comedy.

Sir Elton is currently in Las Vegas performing at Caesars Palace but the Candle in the Wind singer will return for the event on Friday 13 November.

One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson are taking a hiatus in 2016 but before then the group, whose fifth studio album Made In The A.M. will be released on the same day, will perform their chart-topping hits.

The band will share the stage with their former X Factor contestants Little Mix, as well as Beverly Knight, Ricky Martin and Josh Groban among other artists.

Representing the theatrical side of the night will be Britain's Got Talent winners Jules and her four-legged companion Matisse, performers from Cirque Du Soleil and the cast of Mary Poppins and The Play That Goes Wrong.

Aged 27, comedian Jack Whitehall is the youngest ever host of the Royal Variety Performance, and he will be tasked with impressing Prince Harry, the audience and viewers at home.

Host of the night Jack Whitehall joked the Queen "must be really desperate not to see my act"

"It's a tremendous honour to be hosting the Royal Variety Performance," said Fresh Meat star Jack.

"Having been lucky enough to perform for Prince Charles and Prince William in previous years I look forward to the opportunity of sailing a little too close to the wind in the presence of Prince Harry this time round.

"It's my third time on the show and I still am yet to perform in front of the Queen, she must be really desperate not to see my act."

The Royal Variety Performance 2015 will be screened on ITV in December. The event is staged in aid of the Royal Variety Charity, whose patron is The Queen. Money raised from the show helps people from the world of entertainment in need of care and assistance.
