If you need proof that trouser suits for women are here to stay for 2026 take this as your cue. Not only did Princess Kate refashion her cornflower blue Edeline Lee pantsuit last week, but Cat Deeley just nailed relaxed power dressing with her tomato red suit from Next.
While the Princess of Wales kept things polished and sophisticated, Cat Deeley proved a trouser suit can look just as chic dressed down. Her relaxed Next tailoring, teamed with a simple T-shirt worn on This Morning, is the ultimate lesson in effortless styling.
- Cat Deeley looked chic on Wednesday's episode of This Morning, rocking not one but two trends - a tomato red suit and slogan tee.
- She wore the Next blazer, £64, with the matching Next Red Crinkle Palazzo Trousers, £45, and Sezane L'Ete T-shirt, £50 / $60. If you're in the US, it's available on Next's US store front as well.
- The bold look was complete with a pair of Adidas trainers.
Cat's red Next suit
The 49-year-old TV presenter chose a loose, slouchier fit suit than you might expect to see. Her red suit is made from crinkle material, a much more laidback fabric than your typical suits are made from.
The pieces have a slouchy silhouette, with the blazer meant to be worn loose and oversized and the trousers gorgeously wide with a palazzo cut. The waistband sits high, again giving the suit a more informal vibe.
Cat Deeley's outfits have a magical way of making a tricky trend seem wearable. She's the queen of finding the best of the high street, and this Next suit is such a steal; wear the pieces together like Cat or save the blazer to wear with denim (the most gorgeous colour pairing) or the trousers with a knit and boots come winter.
GET THE LOOK
It's all in the fit. Rather than be tempted to wear a tight-fitting or body skimming suit, Cat's sized up and is wearing the suit oversized. According to reviews, the suit fits true to size but I'd advise considering sizing up for the jacket to keep the more oversized shape in tact.
As for Cat's T-shirt, the organic cotton top ranges in size from XXS - XXXL and the brand suggests taking your usual size.
And since we love a bit of colour therapy here, I've looked into the meaning behind the colour red and the psychology of wearing the bold colour. Red is associated with energy, passion and vitality and is said to be the best colour to wear to beat fatigue and to boost your self-esteem. According to colour therapists, it's also the colour for grounding and strength.
Her co-presenter Ben Shepherd was equally charmed by the suit, calling it "snazzy tomato red."
How Cat styled the Next suit
Cat really has made a quite bold, statement suit wearable in a few ways:
- T-shirt: Forget a shirt or blouse, Cat's relaxed slogan tee is helping to tone down the formality of this suit.
- Shoes: Boots, leather flats or heels are a no-go for making this a chilled look. Cat's gone for a pair of Adidas trainers, and I think it's perfection; shop our edit of trainers for your own pair.
- Jewellery: Slim, thin hoops and minimal jewellery are what Cat does best; look at her accessories with this suit - they're just as laidback.
Cat's beauty tip
Cat shared a handy behind the scenes video of herself getting ready for today's show. Wearing big, velcro rollers, she revealed she uses Sam McKnight's Lazy Girl Dry Shampoo to achieve her voluminous 'do. Cat said she sprays some onto her roots while wearing the rollers, then after before brushing her hair out. Thanks for the tip, Cat!
