Adam Sandler had a very special job to do on July 3, as he officiated one of the most famous couples in the world. The star broke his silence with a new social media post following Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's NYC wedding, confusing fans somewhat.
Taking to Instagram on July 4, Adam shared a picture of the United States flag instead of posting about the wedding, which somewhat confused fans. In the caption, he simply wrote: "Happy 250th America!!!!!"
Comments included: "Like this was the most interesting part of your weekend, okay..." and "You posted this and not your outfit for the wedding?" A third added: "Bro. Of all the things you did this weekend you chose today to make a post?"
Fellow wedding guest, Kyle Juszczyk, gave an insight into Adam's role, writing: "World's best officiant." GMA's George Stephanopoulos, who was one of the famous guests at the wedding, described Adam's words and the wedding itself to ABC's Sophie Flay. "The ceremony was great. Adam Sandler, funny and touching. Vows, everything you would hope for: real, vulnerable, serious and silly. Who knew that a wedding in Madison Square Garden could be so intimate," he said.
Adam has been friends with the happy couple for years. He and Travis first became close while filming Happy Gilmore 2, in which the Kansas City Chiefs star made a cameo appearance.
Adam's friendship with Taylor stretches back even further. The comedian has often spoken about how kind the singer has been to his family, particularly his daughters, Sadie and Sunny, who have met the global superstar several times over the years.
He also described he as "incredible". "Taylor is so damn nice to my family and has always been. My kids have met Taylor a bunch of times over the years, and she's ridiculously nice to them and warm," he told Entertainment Tonight.
Taylor and Travis said 'I do' in front of around 1,000 guests, including many celebrity friends, transforming NYC's iconic sports arena into a fairytale wedding venue.
Celebrities in attendance included Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Gracie Abrams, Brad Pitt, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Grant and Patrick Mahomes, while Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony.
When they were married, Madison Square Garden confirmed the happy news by illuminating its exterior digital screens with the message: "JUST&T MARRIED!", while also referencing Taylor's iconic hit "Love Story" on social media.
The "Love Story" singer rented the venue for a multi-day event, with a smaller ceremony planned for July 2 in front of 100 guests and a larger celebration the following day.
A permit was filed to shut down the streets surrounding MSG with an authorization to erect a canopy or tent outside the arena for 500-999 guests. The permit was filed by event planning company Winick Productions for July 2-4. Additionally, there are no scheduled events at MSG between June 29 and July 6.
