Craig Melvin was left unimpressed by his fellow NBC anchor's airport advice during the July 10 instalment of the Today Show. Ryan Chandler appeared live from Dallas to discuss how severe storms have been affecting fights nationwide.
The reporter offered viewers advice on how to best make it through the airport quickly and avoid missing their plane. "You can get through security without ever touching your wallet. It's called Touch List ID, integrate it into your phone," he shared. "You can use the family security lanes, not just for your family but the solo travellers as well, it makes it more efficient for everybody. Get the earliest flight of the day, it makes it that much more likely you'll get to where you're going and avoid the risk of afternoon thunderstorms. Your airplane is already waiting for you at the gate to help you get where you're going safely on time."
However, Craig called out Ryan for suggesting solo travellers use the designated family queues at the airport. "Ryan, just a clarification here. The family lane, I'm pretty sure, I think it's reserved for families. I don't think Ryan Chandler can just walk through without children or a spouse," said Craig.
"But if your family is in the family lane and I'm in the pre-check lane, it makes it, you know," replied Ryan, to which Craig said: "Ok ok."
"Craig just doesn't want anyone cheating out there, bending the rules," added Laura Jarrett.
Craig Melvin's family
Craig and his wife, Lindsay Czarniak, met while both working at NBC Washington, with Craig enlisted as a news anchor in 2008 and Lindsay boasting the title of sports anchor. The pair tied the knot in 2011 with a wedding in Washington D.C. – the city where they met – at the Church of the Holy City. They later welcomed their son, Delano, in 2014, and their daughter, Sybil, in 2016.
The family's home in Connecticut is worth an estimated $6.2 million and features six bedrooms along with a whole variety of amenities.
In an interview on The Pivot podcast, the news anchor opened up about the "sacrifices" he's made for his job on the Today Show. "I've done morning television for a long time," he shared. "People who are really good at something, you're sacrificing time, sacrificing money, you're sacrificing relationships. We're all sacrificing something. For me, I had to make peace with what I was sacrificing."
Craig joined as a regular host on the NBC show following Hoda Kotb's departure in January 2025.
