From a child star determined to help her family to one of the most recognizable sex symbols of this generation, Sydney Sweeney has undergone quite the transformation.
Over the years, she has evolved from a fresh-faced newcomer to a bona fide businesswoman and go-getter. Join HELLO! as we celebrate Sydney's 29th birthday with a look back at her incredible transformation.

Sydney grew up in Spokane, Washington, and secured a handful of roles as a child star, including appearances in Heroes, 90210, Kickin' It, The Bling Ring and Grey's Anatomy. After shuttling her back and forth for jobs, her family eventually decided to sell their home in Washington and move to Los Angeles, in a move that left them almost destitute and living in a motel.
"We lived in one room. My mom and I shared a bed, and my dad and little brother shared a couch," she recalled to The Hollywood Reporter. "Looking back now, it makes no sense, because if they couldn't afford going back and forth, they were not going to be able to afford living in LA."
"They always say, 'It wasn't your fault.' It was," she added about their financial woes. "[When I went home] there were a lot of really condescending statements that would make me disappointed in myself and guilty that my parents had given up so much to allow me to follow my dreams."

Thankfully, Sydney's hard work paid off, and she began to book larger roles like in Everything Sucks!, The Handmaid's Tale and Sharp Objects. During this time, Sydney was still finding her signature look and sported dark blonde hair and stylish, demure outfits.

The blonde beauty's major breakthrough came with her role in Euphoria, the smash-hit HBO show co-starring Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schafer. Sydney portrayed Cassie Howard in the series, which debuted in 2019.
"Cassie is one of the most relatable characters to me, because I search for love and acceptance, and I'm scared of being alone," she told Deadline.
"I truly feel everything Cassie feels. I like to look at it as if I am living and breathing that character's life, and the moments that are happening are truly affecting her. I'm just allowing whatever hits her to hit me. It's quite a process, but it's why I fell into acting."
Sydney came more into her own on the red carpet during this time, sporting more mature looks with bright colors and ever-changing hairstyles.

Sydney underwent a major transformation for her role in Christy, the biopic following the life of former professional boxer Christy Martin. For the part, the actress had to work out for hours on end and went on to gain 30 lbs.
"I came on board to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training," she told W magazine. "I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour."
She also donned a brunette wig for the role, looking so different from her usual bombshell persona. Sydney then had to quickly shed the weight to prepare for her role in The Housemaid, and told People that she was "really strict" about her health.
"When I was training, it was really hard to put on all the weight. I was eating so much food. Like, everything you could possibly imagine," she told the outlet. "And then I was downing protein shake after protein shake and taking a lot of creatine, which just makes you bloat."
"When you stop working out and taking all your protein shakes, you lose muscle super-fast," she added. "It's the first thing to go before fat. So, that, I dropped within two weeks."

Over the years, Sydney has courted her fair share of controversy, like when fans discovered that she had registered as a Republican voter, or when she was the face of an American Eagle jeans advertisement in July 2025 that many believed was racially charged.
"I was honestly surprised by the reaction," she told People of the major backlash she received following the campaign. "I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don't support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren't true."
"Anyone who knows me knows that I'm always trying to bring people together," she explained. "I'm against hate and divisiveness." Sydney also addressed her silence in the wake of the controversy.
"In the past, my stance has been to never respond to negative or positive press, but recently I have come to realize that my silence regarding this issue has only widened the divide, not closed it. So I hope this new year brings more focus on what connects us instead of what divides us."

2026 has been a blockbuster year for Sydney, who launched her lingerie brand, Syrn, in January. The rollout was timed perfectly with season three of Euphoria, in which her character portrayed an OnlyFans model and often wore head-turning lingerie looks.
"I was in the sixth grade with double D's. I hated the bra I had to wear," she said in a statement ahead of the brand's launch. "When I bought my first cute bra that actually fit, I wore it to pieces. Designing for different bodies is a huge part of Syrn."
"I wanted to create a place where women can move between all the different versions of who we are," she declared. "I love working on cars. I go waterskiing. I'll dress up for the red carpet, then go home to snuggle my dogs. I'm not one thing; no woman is."
