Kelly Osbourne got candid about her fractured relationship with her older sister, Aimee Osbourne, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight despite her family being in the public eye.

The 41-year-old looked back on the start of her family's smash-hit reality show, The Osbournes, which debuted in 2002 and ran for four seasons, and spoke about Aimee's reluctance to do the series.

On Tuesday's episode of the We Need To Talk podcast, Kelly said that she couldn't "tell the whole truth" about Aimee as she didn't want "to speak on behalf of her," but that doing the show "just wasn't meant to be for her".

"We're not close, but I do respect her enough to, you know, keep her anonymity, if you understand. I believe there's a reason for everything."

The TV personality claimed that Aimee "didn't really ever acknowledge" her and Jack

Kelly added that during her childhood, Aimee "didn't really ever acknowledge" her or her brother, Jack Osbourne, which sowed the seeds of estrangement between them. "She was just in her own world doing her own thing. And I do, to a certain extent, if I'm honest, feel as though she was embarrassed of us," Kelly admitted.

"I'll never really truly understand. It just felt that way. We're very different. Everything I am, she's not. Everything she is, I'm not. Like you couldn't be more polar opposite. We're like oil and water."

Feelings of resentment

The mother of one explained that being estranged from her sister was "one of the hardest things of my life" as she "had to learn how to do certain things that a big sister should have taught you on my own."

Kelly admitted that she would always feel resentment over their relationship, and that there was no chance of reconciliation in the future.

"I respect her. I accept her, but we're different. And that's okay... with family, there's an assumption that because you share blood, everything should be shared. But I think the beauty in life is that you have an opportunity to also select who your family is."

"If you're not going to accept me for who I am, and constantly be trying to change me, and say horrible things about me, and truly seem to thrive when I'm not doing well, I don't want you in my life," Kelly concluded.

Aimee chose not to be involved in her family's reality show

Jack has spoken in the past about his estrangement from Aimee, and shared on the Disrespectfully podcast that they were "not close at all".

"We don't have a great relationship. She'll be the first to tell you that, so it's no secret," he explained.

The 43-year-old revealed why she chose to lead a private life

Aimee, who typically shies away from being in the spotlight, made a rare comment on her decision not to participate in The Osbournes as a teenager, which led to her moving out of the family home at 16.

"I suppose I was the one that had to be in control a lot of the time," she told The Independent

"But then it came naturally. And, for me, watching people get out of control, and be indulgent and dramatic was…well, very silly."

"I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on earth would I want that portrayed on television? I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable," Aimee said.
