Following his much talked about faux documentary I'm Still Here, Joaquin Phoenix is planning a return to more mainstream fare.
He is in talks to star in tense drama Low Life.
The film is about a woman moving from the US to Poland when she faces her worst nightmare and falls prey to a "charming sleezebag pimp".
This is the fourth project on which the actor will collaborate with director James Gray.
Filming begins next year, with a star studded cast including with French Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard and Hurt Locker actor Jeremy Renner.
