Oscar nod a dream come true for Carey Mulligan

Oscar nod a dream come true for Carey Mulligan

British actress Carey Mulligan is revelling in her Oscar nomination.

"This is beyond anything I've ever dreamed of," the 24-year-old said after hearing the news on Tuesday.

"I've definitely never felt such excitement and nausea this early in the morning!"

The actress has no formal training after being turned away from drama school three times.

But, up against leading ladies including Meryl Streep and Dame Helen Mirren, the screen star has shown she has the credentials to prove her talent.

Fellow first-time nominee Gabourey Sidibe has also been expressing her excitement.

"I am so excited and honored to be recognized by the Academy and included in such a remarkable group of actors," says the actress, who has been nominated for her role in Precious.

"I'm very proud of my film, my cast and extremely grateful to (director) Mr Daniels for the incredible opportunity to play Precious."

Vote for who you think deserves the best actress Oscar.
