Prince Charles takes Camilla to land of her ancestors

Prince Charles takes Camilla to land of her ancestors

It was Prince Charles' 15th trip to Canada, but it was a special one – being the first time he has travelled there with the Duchess of Cornwall, who has ancestral links with the country.

"For my wife, it is both figuratively and literally true that Canada is in her blood," explained the heir to the throne.

"She has the good fortune to be a great, great, great granddaughter of the prime minister of the United Province of Canada, Sir Alan MacNab who lived in Hamilton, Ontario."

The royal couple wrapped up warm for a trip to the historic town of Brigus in St John's, where they faced particularly harsh weather.

Later this week they will travel to the home of Camilla's forbearers to tour Dundurn Castle in Hamilton, which was built in 1835 for Sir Alan MacNab.
