Emilia Fox receives butterfly kiss as she inspects faux rainforest

Emilia Fox was in enthusiastic mood this week as she checked out a pioneering conservation project in St Albans.

The actress, who at one point got a spectacular facial accessory, after a delicate Tree Nymph butterfly touched down gently on her cheek, was helping unveil the first phase of a £27 million butterfly world. "I can't think of the words to describe the emotions I felt this morning when I was shown around," says the 34-year-old star, who is patron of the project and says the site was just a muddy field when she saw it a year ago.

When completed in 2012 the visitor attraction will feature 10,000 tropical butterflies and moths, plus other insects and hummingbirds. All will fly free in an imitation rainforest under a 300ft-wide, 60ft-high transparent dome.

A scaled-down version of the butterfly house will go on display at a butterfly-themed festival this summer.
