Roman Polanski agreed to settle case with payout in 1993

Fifteen years after leaving the United States, French-Polish film director Roman Polanski, agreed to pay his victim of sexual assault $500,000 it has been revealed.

The film-maker is currently detained in Switzerland pending extradition to the United States.

Roman was convicted of unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977 but fled the United States before he could be sentenced. Since then there has been a US warrant out for his arrest.

Court documents released on Friday stated that he and his victim, Samantha Geimer, reached a deal in October of 1993 which required Roman to pay her $500,000.

The records did not reveal whether the 76-year-old director had ever paid, according to reports.

Roman was on his way to accept a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival when he was arrested at the city's airport last week.

The 76-year-old director has garnered much support from fellow Hollywood film-makers who have requested his release.
