Friendship blossoms for Carla and Michelle in France

They've been pitted as rivals in the fashion stakes but there was certainly no sign of any bad feeling between Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and Michelle Obama as the pair greeted each other with a kiss on the cheek in Strasbourg.
 
The warm exchange came as Michelle and her husband, US president Barack Obama, stopped off in France during their a whirlwind eight-day international trip. Michelle had previously met Carla's husband, French president Nicholas Sarkozy, at the G20 summit in London.
 
While both women's names frequently appear on 'best dressed' lists, Carla and Michelle's personal styles are quite different. The US First Lady on this occasion stuck to a classic black trouser suit, but often experiments with bold colours, new designers and current trends.
 
Meanwhile Carla, elegant in a lilac frock coat, usually favours classic styles and iconic designers like Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.
