Pierre Cardin hospitalised after passing out

A spokesman for the Cardin fashion house has confirmed that Pierre Cardin has been hospitalised after fainting earlier this week.

The 86-year-old Italy-born French designer was taken to a hospital in Marseille in southern France by helicopter on Tuesday. He's expected to leave the facility on Thursday.

Pierre, who founded his successful house in 1950 and branched out into haute couture three years later, lives in the small medieval village of Lacoste in southern France.

He has orchestrated a theatre festival there for the last nine years on the site of the ruins of the former castle of the Marquis de Sade, which he now owns
