Dame Vera Lynn becomes oldest living artist to reach top two

Monday September 7, 2009

Seventy years after she first recorded the wartime classic We'll Met Again, a new album from Dame Vera Lynn has stormed into the charts at number two.

The disc, a compilation of the 92-year-old's best-loved records, entered at number 20 last week. Since then, sales have continued to soar and We'll Met Again: The Very Best Of Vera Lynn has shot up the list of bestsellers.

Pipped to first place by indie group Arctic Monkeys, Dame Vera is, nevertheless, delighted with the result.

"I'm so surprised, I can't quite believe it! It really is amazing that this has happened after all these years," she says.
