Inception star Joseph Gordon-Levitt announced on this Twitter page that his brother Dan, who he referred to as his 'superhero', has passed away.
Known as Burning Dan for his stints as a fire-spinning artist at the Burning Man Festival, the 36-year-old worked in Venice Beach, California as a fire performer and flow arts teacher.
Artist Dan - who died of a suspected drug overdose - was known to have inspired his little brother, seven years his junior, and collaborated with him on his website hitRECord.org – an online community that develops art and media collectively.
Joseph has asked those that knew Dan to celebrate his life through artistic contributions.
Stating that his brother would not want the news to deter the online community from continuing with their collective mission, Joseph added: “That said, I might not feel up to it for a little while.”
Despite the age difference, the two brothers were very close.
"He taught me to question the relationships other people have with their siblings because he would be my favorite person in the world even if I wasn’t lucky enough to know him as my brother,” Dan said of his actor sibling.
