Cycling helps Spandau boys get in shape ahead of reunion tour

Wednesday September 9, 2009

Less than five weeks before they take to the stage for their long-anticpated comeback tour, the members of Spandau Ballet are looking fit and ready to roll.

Turning out for Gary Kemp's I Know This Much book launch this week, he and brother Martin were on particularly dapper form.

Former EastEnder Martin has been shaping himself up for the forthcoming gigs, having splashed out £2,000 on a carbon-framed bike which he rides daily at 6am.

"I've become passionate about cycling in a short space of time. I'm so addicted to this now," says the musician, who has lost 14lb.

Bandmate Tony Hadley has also been pulling out all the stops as the concert dates near.

The 49-year-old has been spotted jogging around his north London neighbourhood with wife Alison Evers, and also visits the gym regularly.

Meanwhile, wives of the band members have hired a team of minders to stop their men  from partying too hard.

"They're worried that we'll get up to no good. And they have every right to be," songwriter Gary says.

"We've always been a hard-living band."
