Lacey Turner wins big at soap awards after announcing resgination

The cream of British television was out in force for the annual Soap Awards at the weekend.

The glitzy event at the London Studios rounded up an action-packed year of soaps, with EastEnders' 25th and Coronation Street's 50th anniversaries.

Winning big on the night was Albert Square resident Lacey Turner, who plays troubled Stacey Slater.

Following storylines involving her murdering of Archie Mitchell, the death of her husband and bipolar diagnosis, Lacey scooped awards for best dramatic performance and best actress.

It may be the last soap award for the brunette star, who recently announced her decision to step down from her current role.

It was a winning night all round for the Walford soap, with prizes won by Scott Malsen, who plays Jack Branning, and Marc Elliott, who plays Syed Masood.

In contrast, ITV rival Coronation Street took home just three awards.

Hosted by Philip Schofield, the 17 awards were voted for by a panel of judges or the public.
