Elton John libel case rejected

Elton John libel case rejected

Elton John has had his libel case against The Times rejected.

The newspaper ran a series of articles that inferred that the singer had been involved in tax avoidance.

It was wrongly declared by the paper that Elton's accountant was Patrick McKenna of Ingenious Media, who had become embroiled in tax avoidance allegations, thus suggesting that the artist could also be involved.

The newspaper rectified the mistake and issued a correction the following day.

The High Court ruled that Ingenious Media rather than Elton himself was under scrutiny in the articles, therefore all libel charges were to be dropped.
