Nancy Dell'Olio was left so upset by comments following her latest Strictly performance, she considered taking legal action.
The fiery 50-year-old lawyer took exception to Bruno Tonioli's remark she looked as though she had "inhaled two gallons of Veuve Clicquot".
And she reportedly told friends she was considering taking legal action against the judge.
Nancy performed at the weekend despite suffering with a torn ligament in her knee.
She received the lowest score from the judges, but viewers kept her in at the expense of Edwina Curry.
She has denied drinking at all before the live broadcast.
A friend said: "She was having trouble walking and her leg was in real pain.
"But she thought the show must go on, so took to the floor.
"To then have Bruno accuse her of being drunk, she found very upsetting.
"She had considered legal action – but everyone's been calming her down."
A BBC spokesman said: "The judges always give constructive criticism to all our dancers, and this is often delivered with humour given that Strictly is an entertainment show.
"Bruno's comments were tongue-in-cheek and not meant to cause offence."
It's believed that Nancy has been persuaded against taking legal action.
