John Galliano: the famed fashion legend's colossal career with Christian Dior

Troubled fashion designer John Galliano will face trial on June 22 for verbally abusing three people with anti-Semitic remarks on two separate occasions.

The date was set on Thursday at a hearing in Paris, at which Galliano – who lost his job at Dior following the incidents - was not present.

His new lawyer Aurelien Hamelle said his client "knows what he said was not right. And he regrets the remarks he made".

He added: "But we should remember he was sick and in a bad place. He was so drunk he cannot really remember what he said. And he is still undergoing treatment now."

The Gibraltar-born designer faces up to six months in prison and €22,500 (£19,700) in fines if found guilty of "public insults based on origin, religious affiliation, race or ethnicity".
