British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's new film Bruno enjoyed a huge opening weekend in North America, taking the top spot with ticket sales of £18.7 million.
The mock documentary, which stars the 37-year-old as a flamboyant Austrian fashion reporter trying to achieve fame in the US, beat Sacha's 2006 hit film, Borat, which took £16.3 million on its opening weekend.
Nearly half of Bruno's total was taken on Friday with sales of £8.95 million. On Saturday it took £5.5 million while Sunday's ticket sales reached £4.5 million.
In the number two slot is comedy animation Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs while Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen – which spent two weeks at number one – dropped down to number three.
