Minutes before celebrating his Commonwealth gold on the podium in Delhi, Tom Daley (pictured right) had one vital call to make.
The champion diver phoned his father Rob thousands of miles away to share his triumph in the men's synchronised diving with partner Max Brick.
Rob was told not to make the journey to India to support his 16-year-old son because he is receiving treatment for a brain tumour.
Four years ago he was diagnosed with a the tumour.
An operation reduced it by 80 per cent, but in February it was found to have grown again and he begun chemotherapy.
But watching the win on TV in the early hours of the morning was just the tonic he needed.
And speaking to his boy within minutes of the last dive made him very emotional.
"We are so proud of him. I had tears in my eyes," he said.
