The emotion became too much for John Travolta during his first TV interview since the death of his son Jett.
The Pulp Fiction star's eyes welled up with tears as he introduced his daughter on her first chat show appearance.
Telling the audience of his pride in nine-year-old Ella, who stars with him in upcoming Disney film Old Dogs, John said: "I'm holding back the tears."
To which talk show host Ellen DeGeneres replied: "No, really you're not," before offering him a box of tissues.
The grieving star also used the opportunity to thank members of the public for support in the wake of his son's death.
"I just want to take one moment to thank each and every one of you throughout this country, throughout the world, for all your support and all your love for our family," he said.
