Queen will pay for Prince Harry's flying visit to the States

The taxpayer will not foot the bill for Prince Harry's visit to America at the end of this month.

When he arrives in New York to take part in a charity polo match for his Sentebale organisation only the young royal's security arrangements will be funded from the public purse. The rest will be paid for by his royal grandmother.

"As it's not a full-fat royal trip, the Queen has very graciously offered to foot the bill," his private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton.

Harry's 36-hour visit will combine private engagements like the sports fixture with official duties such as a visit to Ground Zero, to pay his respects to victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

A tour of the city's nightclubs by the sociable Prince is not planned insists the aide. "I think he'll be cream-crackered and will want a good night's kip"
