Going, going, gone – Barbra Streisand sells belongings

Wednesday October 14, 2009

Hundreds of pieces of furniture, art, clothing and other items owned by iconic singer Barbra Streisand are going under the hammer in Beverly Hills this weekend.

Among the lots up for grabs is a gold painted wooden 'A' kept in the actress' kitchen as a memento of her decision to drop the letter from her name.

There is also a dental cabinet the 67-year-old bought when she was just 18.

And there are of course a wide range of clothes worn by Barbra over the years which are bound to attract the attention of her fans.

They include the pink outfit she wore in the film Meet the Fockers, and the red and gold frock she wore in 1976 to accept the American Film Institute's lifetime achievement award.

"Alot of these items are very difficult for her to part with," said the auctioneer, "Like the dental cabinet, it was her first purchase."

But Barbra was evidently determined to press ahead with the clearout. "What good does it do in storage? Let someone else enjoy it," she said.

All proceeds will go to the Streisand Foundation which supports women's, children's, environmental and political causes.
