Explosive situation for Cheryl Cole in Afghanistan

Thursday September 15, 2011

Cheryl Cole may have got more than she bargained for after flying out to Afghanistan - having to run for cover in a fierce mock gun battle.

The singer and former X Factor judge took part in the exercise, which ended in her helping to carry a soldier to a Chinook, in sweltering 40C heat at Camp Bastion.

Dressed in Army fatigues, Cheryl, 28, told the Daily Mirror: "I went into the room and heard an explosion.

"It was scary. I was terrified. I'm not ashamed to say I screamed and uttered a few expletives."

On the way to the base in Helmand, the pop star served dinners of sausages, mash and peas to star-struck soldiers on a 12-hour RAF flight on a Tristar jet..

Once at the base, she fired a grenade machine gun, the newspaper said.

She also got behind the wheel of a Jackal, declaring: "It's a bit different to driving a car in Newcastle."

The trip, to boost the morale of British soldiers, comes as it was reported that Cheryl will be launching her own shoe collection.

The style queen is to launch a limited edition collection of shoes and offer fashion advice as she teams up with website Stylistpick.com.
