Paralympic gold medalists to be in a series of stamps

The British Paralympic Association (BPA) have revealed that gold medal-winning Paralympians will feature in a series of postal stamps.

While their Olympic counterparts were honoured with individual stamps, Paralympian medalists will instead be pictured in a set of six first-class stamps that will be produced after the Games.

Four years ago, at the Beijing Olympics, Paralympics GB won an impressive 42 gold medals.

As a result the BPA said that it is "logistically and practically impossible for Royal Mail to produce an individual stamp for every one of the gold medallists for Paralympics GB."

However, those athletes that win gold will also be awarded a gold post box in their home town.

Royal Mail has also provided a £200,000 prize fund which is to be divided up equally between the gold medallists.

The Games begin on August 29.
