'Breakfast at Tiffany's' director Blake Edwards dies

American film director Blake Edwards has died in southern California, his publicist has confirmed.

The 88-year-old husband of Julie Andrews passed away from complications from pneumonia at St John's Centre in Santa Monica, Gene Schwam said.

His wife and other members of his family were by his side.

The films directed by Blake include The Pink Panther and Breakfast at Tiffany's, starring Audrey Hepburn.

While he never won an Oscar for any of his movies, he did receive an Academy Award in 2004 for his "extraordinary body of work".

Julie, 75, and Blake (pictured together in June) married in 1969. He is survived by her and his four children – two from his first marriage and two whom he adopted with the Sound of Music star.
