Monday April 18, 2011

Two miles from the finish line, Sophie Raworth's dreams of completing the London Marathon looked all but over.

The BBC newsreader collapsed near the end of the race, and had to be taken to a Saint John's Ambulance bay for two hours to recover.

But showing incredible determination, she picked herself back up again.

Sophie went on to complete the 26.2 mile run in six hours, 22 minutes and 57 seconds.

She was taking part to raise money for Cancer Research UK after losing her best friend to the disease last year. In total she collected £12,000 for the cause.

Others taking part included James Cracknell who completed the course in three hours, three minutes and 56 seconds.

The Olympian oarsman is still recovering from a severe brain injury he suffered while competing in an endurance race across the US just eight months ago.
