'EastEnders' actor Max goes into action for a good cause

Jake Wood, the actor behind EastEnders bad boy Max Branning, was doing his bit for charity at the weekend as he joined 1,200 other runners in an annual London fun run.

The 36-year-old actor, who regularly participates in Newcastle's Great North Run half marathon, donned his sneakers for the ten-kilometre Crouch End race which raises funds for local children's charities.

Though filming in Albert Square can take up 14 hours a day, sometimes for six days a week, Max has a full fitness regime which includes running, weight-training and boxing.

"I took up running when I gave up smoking ten years ago. I probably run three or four times a week and when I'm preparing for a half-marathon, I would do more running and cut down on the weights," he says.

"My longest training run would be around ten miles. I don't drink or smoke and I'd like to think I have a good general level of fitness."
