First lady in red Michelle Obama shows movie star style

Sashaying out on to the dance floor, escorted by her tuxedo-clad husband, Michelle Obama makes this Washington awards dinner seem more like date night rather than an official function.

And the event - organised by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation - definitely gave US president Barack Obama an opportunity to mix business with pleasure.

After giving a keynote speech urging the audience to give him their support during the upcoming mid-term elections, he led his first lady out for a dance.

And he couldn't have looked prouder given his wife's stunning appearance in a sweeping pillar-box hued gown that showed off her famously sculpted arms.

The look was topped off by a chic updo and statement earrings.
