Jeff Conaway – who played Kenickie in cult film Grease – has been badly hurt after a fall at his California home.

The 59-year-old was rushed to hospital and underwent emergency surgery after tumbling down a staircase.

His girlfriend Vicky Lizzi said he had suffered a brain haemorrhage, a fractured neck, a broken arm and a broken hip as a result of the fall.

She also said the actor – who has admitted to drug addictions in the past – feared "these are his final days". 

Jeff is probably best known for playing John Travolta's right-hand man in the 1978 musical movie.

In 1980 he married Olivia Newton-John's sister Rona and the couple had a son Emerson together, but the marriage fell apart after five years.
