Robert Pattinson is still the main contender to play the late musician Jeff Buckley in a biopic of his life.
The Twilight star is said to be a huge fan of the Lilac Wine singer, who tragically drowned aged 30 in 1997, and is reportedly very keen to star in the film, but it was rumoured the part had gone to Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley.
Now Orion Williams, who is co-producing the film has told the Los Angeles Times: "Penn is not involved in the film at all. It's crazy how these stories get out. We are all very unified in our search to find the perfect person to play Jeff."
He went on: "When you have a story about an individual like Jeff you get a lot of interest because his life was so impactful and so short.
"We're being very careful about it as we move forward. It takes a while to perfect this type of film. You've got to do it for the right reasons."
The producer revealed he had arranged to meet Robert, 25, for preliminary discussions about the film, but added that casting did not begin until October.
Producer Michelle Sy said earlier this year: "The actor must be able to play music and sing, or at least make it believable he can do that. Until we start auditions there's no way we know who's best for the part."
RPatz has written songs which have been featured on the soundtrack albums for the Twilight films.
Jeff Buckley's mother Mary Guibert, 62, said in an interview with the Australian Courier Mail newspaper in May 2009 that Robert, Jared Leto, James Franco and James Marsden were all interested in playing the musician in the film.
