England beat Slovenia to progress in World Cup

A goal by Jermain Defoe has put England through to the knockout stages of the World Cup in South Africa.

The narrow 1-0 victory means the national side will play the winners of group D, which could be either Germany, Ghana or Serbia.

A packed out Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth witnessed the nervy game as millions back home anxiously watched on TV.
